Abstract: A new synthesis may be emerging that helps explain the basis and
nature of human perception. It is based in the ideas that the brain constructs
what we see in an empirical and embodied manner.
It is argued here that an understanding of the way in which visualart deals
with the essences of seeing can aid in furthering this
synthesis about perception and can also help guide the development of methods
of scientific visualization.
